Who We Are

Cabrini of Westchester is proud to continue the legacy of its Foundress, Mother Cabrini. Inspired by the values of leadership, education, and advocacy for those in need of care, in 1880 Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Almost a decade later, by the direction of Pope Leo XIII, Mother Cabrini and a small group of her religious sisters left Italy for New York, on a mission to minister to the countless Italian immigrants living in poverty in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Little did she know the legacy that would blossom from her boundless compassion.

For over 125 years, spanning six continents and sixteen countries, Cabrini programs and institutions have been committed to advancing St. Frances Xavier Cabrini’s mission and legacy of healing, teaching, and caring. Cabrini programs and institutions provide services to women, children, immigrants, and the elderly in the United States and around the world.
